ข้าวและการทำนาขึ้น
เมื่อข้าวตั้งท้อง หลังจากปักดำนาได้ระยะหนึ่ง ชาวบ้านเชื่อว่าแม่โพสพจะมีอาการเหมือน
คนแพ้ท้อง จึงจัดให้มีพิธีทำขวัญข้าวขึ้น โดยเฉพาะพวกผู้หญิงจะพากันไปเยี่ยมและพูดคุยกับแม่โพสพ
เมื่อถึงข้าวกอที่ขึ้นงอกงามที่สุดก็จะปักหลัก 1 หลัก นำชะลอมบรรจุหมากพลูจีบ ผลไม้
เปรี้ยวหวานมาให้แม่โพสพ มีการหวีตัดแต่งใบข้าว พรมน้ำอบ พร้อมกับผูกชะลอม ไว้กับหลัก ใช้ด้ายสีแดง ขาว เหลือง ผูกคอชะลอม เอาอกเอาใจข้าวเหมือนการเอาใจคนท้อง พูดจาด้วยถ้อยคำที่ไพเราะ บอก
กล่าวกับแม่โพสพให้ไร่นาได้ผลผลิตอุดมสมบูรณ์ไม่มีสิ่งใดมารบกวนที่นา
“แม่โพสี แม่โพสพ แม่นพดารา ไปอยู่ที่ต้นไร่ปลายนา ขอเชิญแม่มา”
Traditionally ,Thai people believe that “Khesn khao[rice spirit] ,or “Mae Phosop
[rice mother] , resides in the rice crop . They consider that it is necessary to perform a ceremony
To show respect and to give strength to the plant . This led to the creation of rites concerning rice
Farming and the rice crop.
When the rice crop begins to seed,people usually say that the rice begins to be
Pregnant.After a period of farming , it is believerd that Mar Phosop will have morning sickness.
Therefore,the khwan khao rite is held and farm wo,em usually pay a visit anv talk to Mae Phosop
When farmers arrive at one of the most beautiful thickets of rice ,they will hang
A bamboo basket at the end of a small flag post in the field. The basket contains betel and betal nut
And sweet and sour fruits as an offering to Mae Phosop. They will also comb the rice plant, clip
Rice leaves , and sprinkle them with lustral water. Red ,white and yellow theads ate tied with the
Bamboo basket . They also talk with sweet words to Mae Phosop in a manner of pleasing a
Prignant woman. The farmers also ask Mae Phosop to bring fertility to her farm and protect it from
Disturbances.
